Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury announced Friday that the Longhorns will face the Falcons in a matchup of the three best teams in the nation.
Kingsbury said that the game will be played on ESPN.
“It will be the most important game of the season for both teams,” Kingsbury told reporters Friday morning.
“This is the most intense rivalry in the country.
It will be a great battle for our fans and our alumni.”
The game will kick off at 12:45 PM ET.
The Longhorns are ranked No. 9 in the latest AP poll and have a 12-2 record in the Big 12.
Texas has won five of its last six games and has won seven straight.
The two teams meet in Houston on Nov. 6.
Texas will be looking to continue its winning streak, which began in 2017, when it beat Texas Tech 24-21 in Austin.
The season-opening contest marks the third straight time Texas has faced Texas Tech.
The Red Raiders beat the Red Raiders 30-14 in Austin on Oct. 15, 2016.
The teams last meeting in Houston was Nov. 14, 2012, when Texas Tech lost 35-23 at home to Texas.
