With a big win over Memphis in the BCS Championship Game, Purdue is on track to earn a national title.
The Boilermakers are 2-0 in the conference.
But their opponents, Memphis, are now looking for revenge after beating Purdue last season.
This will be a battle between two undefeated teams.
Last year, Purdue was a national champion.
They finished 9-1 and were ranked in the top 10 for the first time in a long time.
Now they’re on the wrong side of history.
Purdue will face a team that went 9-3 last year and was in the national title picture for the third straight season.
Memphis was a top-10 team last year.
The game will be televised nationally on ABC.
Purdue was 4-0 at home last year, and the Boilermaker won nine of those games.
On Saturday, Purdue will try to stay undefeated in the bowl.
They’ll be facing the Memphis Tigers who beat Purdue 35-14 in 2014.
Memphis was expected to be a top 10 team in the country last season and have some talent on their roster.
But the Tigers had a lot of talent last year (seven players who played in the NFL, including three running backs, three linebackers and three safeties) and this year they’re expected to have a lot more depth.
It’s a good game for the Boilers, who won’t be playing at home for the fourth straight year, but it could be a little more challenging for them.
Last year the Boilers finished 7-5, but this season they’ll be playing in a new stadium, and a new team.
They’re also losing quarterback Justin Thomas (who is coming off a torn ACL), offensive line coach Todd Jones, offensive line recruiting coordinator David Mabrey, defensive line recruiting coach Justin Rauch and linebacker coach Scott Coker to graduation.
“We feel good about the depth,” said Purdue coach Kevin Wilson.
“There’s some talent here.
They have some quality guys, but we have to get better and we have some more things to work on.”
The Boilerakers are 6-1 in bowl games, including a win over Iowa State in the Rose Bowl.
They’ve won at home in each of the last three bowl games against Memphis.
In last year’s game, Purdue quarterback Brandon Wimbush threw for 306 yards and a touchdown.
Bryan Fischer will be the play-by-play announcer for this year’s bowl game.
