ETTuesday, Aug. 10–There’s a new coach at Auburn football.
It’s a move that’s likely to make the Tigers more vulnerable to another coaching carozzle and could result in a less-than-ideal future for the program.
The latest news from around the nation:The new head coach of the Auburn football program, Gus Malzahn, is expected to replace John Chavis, who resigned last week after one year in charge of the Tigers program.
The news was first reported by ESPN.
Baylor’s Matt Rhule is the frontrunner to replace Malzhan as the Tigers’ next coach.
Rhule replaces former Auburn coach Matt Rhoads, who left to become Baylor’s defensive coordinator.
He is currently in his second season as the Bears defensive coordinator and has an 18-6 record.
Auburn’s next season will be held after the 2018 season.
Auburn was 0-12 last season and currently sits in the SEC South cellar.
